Asteroceras Obtusum Ammonite
This ammonite was found on the beach at Charmouth in 2023, and is quite an unusual specimen. It was found in a small stone with parts of the ammonite showing on the outside, with a large bite mark on the outer whorl of the ammonite. Fatally bitten asteroceras obtusum ammonites (attacked and killed by another jurassic sea creature) are quite rare, and these bite marks are more commonly seen in the smaller promicroceras ammonites. The ammonite displays some fantastic sutures on the outer whorl as well as an unusual and rare mottled colouration. Roughly 195 million years old from the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, England.
Fossil dimensions: 80mm (3.1 inches across at widest point)
Rock dimensions: 8x7x4cm
