Crinoid stone, Eype Clay Member, Dorset

£475.00

This stone was found on the beach at Eype on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset in 2022. There were several signs on the outside of the stone that it could have something interesting inside and it ended up turning out to be a really busy piece, with crinoid stems prevalent throughout the stone. This piece perfectly represents part of the Jurassic seafloor where these crinoids would have been filter feeding, before a storm event likely broke them into fragments and buried them approximately 185 million years ago during the lower Jurassic.

Species: Most likely Balanocrinus gracilis.

Location: Eype, Dorset

Rock dimensions: 24cm x 19cm x 5cm
