Promicroceras Ammonites
This stone was found on the beach at Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset in 2020, and displays 5 colourful promicroceras ammonites which have been entombed together for over 195 million years. It’s likely that Jurassic ocean currents brought the ammonites together in the same place. Two of the ammonites are leaning up at an angle against two other ammonites, and it’s likely that the ammonites below provided a small obstacle on the seafloor which caused the ammonites above them to settle there. All of the ammonites have been prepared shell-off to highlight the calcite colours beneath.
Approximately 195 million years old.
Fossil dimensions: largest: 19mm, Smallest: 14mm
Rock dimensions: 90mm x 55mm
