Tephuid Squid Fossil (with fossil squid ink)
This fossil teuthid squid was found on the beach at Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset in 2021, and displays a fantastic example of fossil squid ink. These are quite rare fossils and it is unusual to see as much fossil ink preserved as this. The stone was split on the beach and the two halves can be put back together. These squids like modern-day squids would use ink as a defence mechanism. Approximately 195 million years old.
Fossil dimensions: 100mm x 75mm
