Ichthyosaur Vertebra (Superb Specimen)
This large Ichthyosaur vertebra is a superb specimen with very little wear from the beach system. It was found on the beach at Lyme Regis in 2024 and likely comes from around the centre of the animal where the ribs are located. It has been air abraded to remove the matrix that was still attached to it. The white “flecks” in the bone are where calcite has infilled the holes in the bone where blood vessels were. Ichthyosaurs has roughly 180 of these vertebrae in their body. Approximately 195 million years old.
Fossil dimensions: 6cm x 5.5cm x 2.6cm
