Marine Reptile Coprolite (Superb Specimen)
This large coprolite is a superb specimen and was found on the beach at Lyme Regis in 2023. This coprolite was found before the sea could damage it, and has been air abraded to bring out all the details. The structure is fantastic and shows that the coprolite folded over when it landed on the seafloor. There are multiple fish scales within the coprolite which shows that the animal that made this was certainly a fish-eater. This Coprolite most likely comes from a marine reptile - either ichthyosaur or plesiosaur. Coprolites are fossilised faeces and have improved palaeontologist’s understanding on the lives of marine reptiles by studying what they ate. Approximately 195 million years old.
Fossil dimensions: 6.6cm x 5cm x 2.6cm
