Promicroceras Ammonite
Promicroceras ammonite from the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, England. This fossil was initially found in a large stone on the beach at Charmouth, and has been carefully prepared to reveal the fossil for the first time in 196 million years. The ammonite has been prepared mostly shell-on, and was likely exposed on the seabed for a little while before being buried by sediment, due to the high numbers of baby bivalves which are present on the ammonite's shell, and were likely using the ammonite shell on the seafloor as a hard substrate in which to grow on. The rock has a cut base so that the piece can be displayed without the need of a stand.
