Xipheroceras Ammonite

£18.00

Xipheroceras ammonite from the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, England. This fossil was initially found in a large stone on the beach at Charmouth, and has been carefully prepared to reveal the fossil for the first time in 196 million years. This ammonite has a small bite mark on the outer whorl, where it was likely fatally bitten by another sea creature. The spines on this ammonite (probably used for defence) are only very small, suggesting it was very young when it died. The rock has a cut-base so that the piece can be displayed without the need of a stand.
